Ferguson's first hackathon is an event to inspire innovation and attract designers and developers from the Hampton Roads area to collaborate and create new tech products. With a focus on builders, designers and contractors, Ferguson Hackathon participants will create good experiences for professional home repair and/or improvements to kickstart Ferguson’s innovation programs. Whether you’re a seasoned developer or designer or just starting out as a beginner, Ferguson Hackathon - Up To Code has something to offer you.
Projects will be based on creativity, technical difficulty, polish and usefulness. There will be prizes awarded to winners and you would be competing with other front and back end designers and developers in the Hampton Roads area. This is a great opportunity to build your resume and meet new people.

What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is an event where people get together and develop awesome technology in a limited amount of time.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. Students and professionals of all skill levels are encouraged to attend, even if you have not written code before. This will be a great opportunity for you to spend a weekend learning, surrounded by experienced coders, willing to help you out.
How do I register?
Official registration will open on October 3rd, where we will collect your information. Ferguson Hackathon - Up To Code admission will be granted on a first-come-first-serve basis, so sign up early to reserve your spot.
Is the event free to attend?
Yes! Ferguson Hackathon - Up To Code is free for all participants thanks to our sponsors. The event includes admission, food and a lot of free gear and swag.
Will accommodations be provided?
Unfortunately, we are not able to provide accommodations at the moment. If you are traveling from out of town, we have reserved a block of rooms at Embassy Suites at a discount rate. Simply reference Ferguson hackathon if you decide to book a room.
What should I bring?
You must bring a valid student or government issued ID card for admission. You should also bring your laptop, charging cables and any other specific materials you'll need for your hacking project.
Will food be served?
We will provide you with free meals throughout the event and tons of healthy snacks in between.
Do I need a team?
You can choose to participate in the hackathon solo, on a team with friends, or on a team assembled on site. If you want to work with friends, make sure everyone registers, as all registrations are individual.

Teams will create a mobile solution for residential trade plumbers and HVAC professionals that fixes a specific pain point.
What's in it for me?
